Terracotta Figurines and Plaques from Dura-Europos

Complementing the author's research on the stone and plaster sculpture from the site of Dura-Europas, this study presents a descriptive catalogue of terracotta figurines and small plaques. The site has a complex history of occupation from the Seleucid colony of the late 4th century BC to the Parthian and subsequent Roman conquest of this important site located above the Euphrates in Syria. The introduction provides the background to the site and its investigation, and discusses the cultural context of the terracottas and problems associated with their archaeological context and dating.
