Antoine Arnauld, known as the "Great Arnauld" (1612-1694), a theologian, Jansenist, grammarian and logician, made an enormous contribution to philosophy in his capacity as who enjoyed privileged relations with Descartes, was one of Leibniz' s correspondents and edited Pascal's work Pensées, and was one of those who did the most to legitimize Cartesianism.
