Fourteen-year-old Marty Sullivan has just started high school, which is difficult enough, but it's even worse when you have to go to a different school with new people in it. A private school. A Catholic school. A private, Catholic, single-sex school. To make matters even more depressing, her best friend Jimmy ends up at Sequoia High School. But there is a silver lining: Jimmy, to no one's surprise--especially Marty's--comes out of the closet to her and it seems he has found himself a new group of gay friends: Kirby (who has five boyfriends on the Internet), Derek (Jimmy's boyfriend) and Oliver. And it's too bad that Oliver is gay, because Marty would otherwise be all over him.As Marty finds some stability in her new friends and the school musical (which is open to students from other schools), Into the Woods, she falls for Felix, the tall, dark and handsome hunk in the school production. But all isn't as it seems with Felix, and it seems everyone can see that--except for Marty. In fact, as observant as Marty can be about her friends' personal lives, she seems, well, beyond clueless about her own. Her own misperceptions cause a rift between her and her friends, especially Oliver--who, as it turns out, is actually straight--but will she be able to repair the damage?
