The role of the Advanced Technology Demonstration (ATD) for successful technology transition is addressed. To achieve successful technological military innovation in the future, research is presented that identifies key factors a technology transition process will have to address for success. While an ATD is but one path of many to successful technology transition, it is the only process in the acquisition system that combines laboratory leadership with a system focus for development of a technology. This combination will prove critical to success in future technology transition efforts.
