Kompletní popis

The diagnosis of Borderline Personality Disorder has takenits place in American psychoanalysis as a personality structure thesignificance of which has equaled and even eclipsed the traditionalcategories of neurosis and psychosis. Yet the borderline diagnosishas been largely rejected by followers of the French psychoanalystJacques Lacan. In this study, Dr. Liliana Rusansky Drob examinesthe concept of borderline personality from the perspective ofLacan, contrasting a Lacanian approach to diagnosing and treatingsuch severely disturbed patients with that of the most prominentexpositor of the borderline diagnosis, Otto Kernberg. Dr. Drobprovides an in-depth analysis of a paradigm case of borderlinepersonality from each of these perspectives. She places thesetheorists in dialog with one another and demonstrates how a patientwho clearly meets standard borderline criteria can beconceptualized, diagnosed, and treated without recourse to theborderline concept, and how an analysis of the Oedipal vicissitudesand unconscious desire of the patient can behighly effective inpromoting structural change and personal growth.
