The morphological characterization and pathological aspects of cell receptors are reviewed in up-to-date contributions by international experts. Precise understanding of receptor functions in cellular physiology and pathology is of increasing importance, since new therapeutical measures interfering directly with receptor or postreceptor processes could become relevant. Special contributions relate to the cell surface receptors and the cytosol/nuclear receptors. An aspect in cancer research is the oncogene expression and the interaction with growth factor receptors and related proteins.
