In the control room of the Salt Lake County Jail, new operator Denny just learned the most important rule: when a deputy needs a door opened, they always say the same two words - "Thanks, Control."
At first, it's just a job. Then it becomes a ritual. Then it becomes something else.
Because something ancient and hungry has been listening to those words for years, waiting for the right person to sit in that cold blue room and put their hands on the panel. Someone sensitive. Someone open. Someone who feels everything.
Now it's learning to speak back.
As the temperature drops and the count climbs, Denny begins to understand that the building isn't just haunted - it's feeding. And every polite "Thanks, Control" is another drop of ink in a glass of water that's slowly turning black.
