Digital Smile Designing (DSD) is a digital treatment planning protocol used in esthetic dentistry to analyze and design a patient's smile using photographs, videos, intraoral scans, and specialized software. It evaluates facial proportions, lip dynamics, gingival display, tooth form, and smile symmetry to create a customized smile design before treatment. The procedure involves collecting patient records, performing digital smile analysis, creating a virtual smile design, and fabricating a mock-up for patient approval before final treatment. DSD is commonly used in veneers, crowns, implant rehabilitation, orthodontics, and full mouth rehabilitation. It improves diagnosis, patient communication, interdisciplinary planning, and predictability of treatment.
