The threat of the Demon Mages looms ever closer as Munayair, Journeyer Anjita, grumpy boatman-turned-Mage Bast, and mysterious swordsman Khuson arrive in the port capital of Al-Thina, where Munayair is confronted with a familiar face - her childhood sweetheart, Bayar.
Meanwhile, a street urchin named Tryst finds himself caught up in a plot amidst the shadowy corners of Al-Thina when he picks the wrong pocket and must uncover his own wondrous abilities.
Soon the companions must fight for their lives, their minds, and their souls. Munayair finds herself facing yet another Demon Mage, this one holding not only the key to her past, but also Khuson's. Their showdown takes place inside an ancient magical lighthouse known as the Kingtower, where the mysterious Light has been burning for more than a thousand years.
Can Munayair find the strength to do what she must and defy the Mages, even with all that she cares about at stake?
