In the summer of 1986, a dark shadow lurks in the normally pristine bathroom facilities of the beaches of Cedar Shores State Park. Johnny Hamblin is a bored summer worker on the park's janitorial staff. He's a pseudo-intellectual with a strong feeling that life is meaningless, a haunting fear that his consciousness will be obliterated upon his death, and a vague understanding of existentialism. Such ideas (and others involving beer bottle caps, the militarization of the janitorial staff and general horniness) ping pong through his mind as he's caught in an endless loop of swishing and flushing. But as bathrooms across the park are desecrated by an unknown assailant, Johnny is drawn deeper and deeper into the mystery. Ultimately, he realizes that if he can't figure out the identity of the culprit and stop the unsanitary terror, it could threaten the very existence of the park.
