This book aims to establish a comprehensive background for any scientist researching cancer nanomedicine. It will be particularly focused on the current challenges in the field and the emerging technologies characterized for their multifunctionality and potential to lead the way in generating a true second-generation anticancer nanomedicines. Beginning with the clinicians perspective, the book reviews the different barriers for cancer treatment, including the analysis of the EPR effect, the necessity of identification of new targets in different cell populations, including cancer cells and immunocompetent cells, and the corresponding targeting ligands. This introduction sets the scene for a detailed discussion on multiple including nanotheranostics, targeted nanomedicines, gene therapy-based nanomedicines and cancer nanovaccines as well as other nanotech-based immunomodulation approaches. The book will finish with 2-3 chapters describing the development of nanomedicines in the clinical pipeline, of particular interest for any scientist hoping to advance their technology through the regulatory pathway.
