YOUR NEW FAVOURITE DETECTIVE.
A very windy Welsh island. A divorced detective with a bad knee, three grown sons and two dogs - an Alsatian cross and a Jack Russell who thinks he's a tiger.
And more dead bodies than DI Alan Williams knows what to do with.
FROM THREE-MILLION-SELLING AUTHOR CONRAD JONES, A GRITTY CRIME THRILLER SERIES ON THE SEEMINGLY IDYLLIC ISLAND OF ANGLESEY.
Please note this book was previously published as A Visit from the Devil.
In a modest bungalow in the sleepy village of Llanfair, Detective Alan Williams faces the most chilling crime scene of his career.
The body of ninety-year-old Mabel Jones lies spread-eagled on her living room floor. Carefully posed. Multiple stab wounds. A saucepan lies beside her. Inside it, is Mabel's heart.
Before Williams can make sense of it, a second body turns up - a young man, wrapped in plastic, his throat cut, his blood drained. Dumped in the ancient burial chamber at Bryn Celli.
Suspicion immediately falls on local teenager Mathew Hudson. He has no friends. He's obsessed with the occult. He knew Mabel's daily routine. But the closer Williams looks, the less it adds up. Mathew isn't the mastermind. He's just an ordinary boy doing his paper round.
Someone else is pulling the strings . . . and they're only just getting started.
Perfect for fans of Simon McCleave, Angela Marsons and M. W. Craven.
THE DETECTIVE
DI Alan Williams is a fair-but-firm, world-weary, middle-aged divorcee. His wife left him several years ago, and his three adult sons come and go, helping him out with the bills and his beloved dogs Gemma and Henry. He and his colleague DS Kim Davies are in an on-off relationship, but his long hours mean it's more off than on.
THE SETTING
The Isle of Anglesey looks like a postcard: jagged cliffs, snow-capped Snowdonia on the skyline, the foaming sea rolling in off the Irish coast. But danger lies beneath its beauty. The tides that draw the tourists will drag a body halfway across the Irish Sea, the sheltered inlets hide deadly currents, and the inky waters of the Menai Strait cut the island off from the mainland. It's a remote, windswept place where everyone knows everyone - the perfect place for a killer to hide in plain sight.
