This book summaries and outlines an innovative Educational-Training protocol for the treatment of mental health patients in primary health care: the Multimodal Brief Systemic Training (MBSTP). with a particular focus on its Integrated Brief Systemic Therapy (IBST) approach. The MBSTP is a useful alternative to other evidence-based training packages, which are mainly Cognitive Behavioural Therapy-based. It is structured as a continuing-education group course delivered by a team of mental-health specialists and, combining theory and practice, offers a challenging, versatile, comprehensive, integrative and research-informed approach whose methodology can be smoothly adopted by primary care professionals (GPs, nurses, social workers and psychologists). Besides students of psychotherapy, this volume will also be invaluable for physicians and other non-mental health professionals who struggle to help people who suffer with cancer, pain, palliative care, and chronic disease all of which have emotional, mental and behavioural components and occur in the close relational systems of family and friends.
