Brian, a motorcycle mechanic that more or less bleeds motor oil, drives home from work, has a nice evening, to then turn in, only to wake up with everything having changed. Yes, it is definitely his house, having his things - or, what remains of them - as the world has fallen, and he is pulled into a world in an apocalypse of some kind.
Heading out into the world, he finds people, but overhearing them, he hears them talking about him, as if they know him well, even his dog. He follows them, watching them enter a very familiar building, as eventually he reveals himself to these people that know him, but he's never seen them before.
With the Vatican having been breached, its secrets spilled out, the truth would reveal that the church was never good, and god was not who they claimed. Vampires, werewolves, and all manner of beings escape, and are now free in the world again, but so is magic, and people having that ability, now no longer suppressed by ritual magic used by the church, only, nobody knows how to handle all this anymore, and as a result, the world crumbles.
Brian, also finding himself to possess a certain kind of magic, goes after a book of power, that, when he finds it, nearly overwhelms him. Step by step he has to learn how to master this immense power, when he ends up bitten by a werewolf, changing everything, fulfilling an ancient prophecy. With the lies of the church revealed, ancient powers must come together in order to fight the final battle, with Brian in the middle of it all.
