A coating is a covering, which is applied on the surface of an object for varied functional or decorative purposes. It can be applied as liquids, solids or gases. Using the techniques of coating, surface properties of the substrate such as corrosion resistance, wear resistance, adhesion or wettability can be changed. It can also provide electrical conductivity or magnetic response in certain cases such as in semiconductor device fabrication.
